Student’s budget

During the first month in Poland the following costs should be taken into account:

  • first month’s fee of the flat or dormitory + deposit (depending on the university)
  • student ID card – about 17 PLN (depending on the university)
  • certified translation of documents – about 25 – 35 PLN per page (1125 characters without spaces)
  • buying a mobile network starter kit – between 5 and 20 PLN (amount to be used later)

Other possible costs:

  • legalization of stay in Poland – residence card (if needed) 340 PLN.
  • photographs of the left half-profile with the left ear visible (4 photos cost on average 30 – 50 PLN)

Where to live?

Living in a student residence costs from 500 PLN per month depending on the university and the number of people living in the room. A room or a place in a room costs on average 400 – 700 PLN per month, a one-room flat (studios) costs from 1000 to 1500 PLN

Insurance

Insurance with the National Health Fund (NFZ) costs 46.80 PLN per month. Insurance prices in private companies depend on the package of services.

Public transport

Students who commute daily to classes must add public transport fares to their costs. A single concessionary ticket (for a student) costs PLN 1.50 (PLN 3.00). A monthly ticket for a semester (4 months): for two selected lines – 97 PLN, for all lines – 150 PLN.

Food

For food it is necessary to spend 400-600 PLN per month. Lunch in the canteens and cafeterias of the university campuses costs 10 – 18 PLN.
